Together Alone by mellisea Together Alone by mellisea
Together Alone is made out of Fimo-clay. The whole figurine is made of clay, only the photoframe is wood.
It took me many months to make. I started in April '08, had some breaks on this project and finally finished it this week (Oktober '08). Never actually thought I would ever finish it but I liked the dog too much :)

I can't count the hours I have worked on it but after all this work I am pleased with the results.

It looks like a set for a stop animation film. I would love to see that. do you have a story behind what is happening or will happen?

Well, that is funny you are asking me that because I do have some sort of idea with it. :)
I had the feeling of an old (man) - dog in this case, who goes to the park every day to feed the pigeons. He looks sad and grumpy but he is not. He is just lonely (somehow that makes him feel comfortable).
The little girl is not afraid of him and finds him rather interesting. She sits next to him and wants to make contact with him. He does not know how to act on her sitting there so he ignores her but she is coming closer... She will try to have an conversation with him.
They will end up as good friends, meeting in the park every day. :D

That is truly amazing! I'm still pretty new to working with baking clay, and I was wondering how long you baked this in the oven? I think I've been baking my sculptures for too short a time, also were you afraid of anything burning?

Hi, normally I bake things between 20 and 30 minutes in a prer-heated oven. 20 minutes for the smaller and fragile parts and 30 for the larger parts. I often back in stages. Like this piece, I have baked parts separately. The girl, the dog, the bench, the doves etc. The are all baked separately and glued together afterwards.
Check the info on the package of the baking clay how long and on what temperature it should be baked.
I have burned this piece once ( [link] ). Thought it was on 180 degrees Celsius, but it was on 240 degrees Celsius... Luckily I was able to save some parts. :)

There is so much I can read into this that I simply don't have enough time to comment. I guess I should focus on how much talent it took to make it. The little girl is so cute and the dog is wonderfully sculpted. I love the little details, especially the umbrella in the garbage can. Everything looks so realistic. Fabulous job!

Oh my goodness!!! This is so....
well words just fail me.
The amount of detail in this floors me. In fact the amount of detail in each individual part of this is amazing. I can well beleive that you have no idea how many hours you put into this, but I bet it is ALOT!
I am at once awed enough that I want to put the clay down forever, and inspired to try something new. (If I ever manage to find time for clay again.)
